Priorities. February 15, 2008

Filed under: Life — Annette @ 4:58 pm

According to Ephesians 5-6, our priorities should be in the following order:

  1. God
  2. Marriage
  3. Children
  4. Work
  5. World

This week I turned down a fairly high profile position because it didn’t fit with those priorities.  It was interesting to me to see the contrast between those who either a) didn’t understand that work is my #3 priority (and would be #4 if I had kids), or b) understood completely.  It wasn’t a hard decision to make, but it was a very good lesson to learn.

Keep on keepin’ on, kids.

Very nice job! (Many) decisions do become so clear for us when we know the Truth, don’t they?

It’s great you’ve got your priorities figured out so early in life. I can understand why people would be surprised to find out your career is your third or fourth priority, though. Think of it from their perspective: If you devote 6 to 8 years of your life and lots and lots of money to getting an upper-level college education, of course people will question your sanity when you don’t take a job opportunity that your education has opened up to you. But hey. If you work that hard for a #3 priority, how hard are you willing to work for #1 and #2? It’s something to consider…

It’s a good point. Although, #3 gets 5.5 years from my life, and #1 and #2 get the rest of my life. 🙂
